RuthAnn Lobo recently retired as a school counselor from Granby Memorial Middle School, a National School of Excellence in Granby, Connecticut. She was the Title IX compliance coordinator for the district of Granby and served on the State Advisory Board for Equity. In 1990 she was selected the Teacher of the Year in Granby and was a finalist for the Connecticut State Teacher of the Year. She is a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.
The Lobo family is featured on a program entitled "Beyond Breast Cancer" which aired nationally on public television. RuthAnn was awarded the Maria Miller Stewart Award by the Connecticut Women's Education and Legal Fund for her role in mentoring and counseling young girls and boys and for advocating equality for girls in education. She was awarded the first survivor's award, named in her honor, by the Connecticut Komen Race for the Cure.
With her daughter Rebecca, RuthAnn has appeared on Public Radio, CBS This Morning, Good Morning America, NBA Inside Stuff, ESPN, CNN, and the Caryl and Marilyn Show. She appeared with Rebecca on a Lifetime special entitled "Lifetime Applauds the Fight Against Breast Cancer." In October 1996, she and her daughter were the subjects of an hour special on Connecticut Public Television.
